Local first

About The Gathering App
The Gathering App is being built around a simple idea: people should not have to already know the right people to find something meaningful to do nearby.
Why it exists
Activities are often scattered across group texts, announcements, social media, and circles people have to already be part of. A good idea can disappear simply because there is no clear place to share it, organize it, and help the right local people find it.
At the same time, more of life has moved online while many people still want real friendship, useful community, and reasons to leave the house. Meeting someone new can feel awkward; showing up for a hike, a game, a service project, or a shared interest feels much more natural.
The Gathering App brings that process into one place: discover, join, plan, message, and gather.
What we believe
The most useful possibilities are the ones close enough for people to actually join.
A shared interest gives people a natural reason to meet and something easy to talk about.
Privacy, membership controls, moderation, and clear expectations should be built in from the beginning.
Success means helping people make real plans—not keeping them scrolling for as long as possible.
What we’re building
Discover nearby groups and gatherings by interest, audience, distance, and activity.
Understand the group, its expectations, membership options, and what is coming next.
Keep each group conversation organized without searching through scattered text threads.
RSVP, see your calendar, get the details, and know what needs your attention.
Rooted locally. Open broadly.
The idea was inspired in part by connection needs seen in Latter-day Saint communities, but the app is for neighbors of every faith and background. Each community should be able to shape the groups it needs.
The Gathering App is an independent, member-created product. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It will become useful in a new area when local people create groups, invite others, and show up. We would rather be honest about that than pretend every community is already full.
Find something already happening or bring the group you wish existed to life.
